Terms of Service

Last updated: September 30, 2026

In short: use the site for your own car research, do not scrape it, treat the data as a starting point rather than a guarantee, and know that we earn a commission when you buy a report through our links.

By using VinCheckCT.com (the "Site") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. What the Site is

The Site is a privately owned information service. It decodes Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), shows public recall and crash-rating information, and links to third-party vehicle history reports. It is not the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, it is not a government agency, and it is not endorsed by one. It is not an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider.

2. Permitted use

You may use the Site for your own personal, non-commercial research, for example when you are deciding whether to buy a vehicle. You may not:

3. Nature of the information

Free decode data comes from the VIN itself and from the NHTSA vPIC database. Recall campaigns and crash ratings are published by make, model and year, not by individual VIN, so they describe the model rather than a particular car. Information in a history report comes from third-party providers and public records. None of it is guaranteed to be accurate, complete or current, and records may be missing or delayed.

Nothing on the Site is legal, financial or mechanical advice. A VIN decode or history report does not replace an independent inspection by a qualified mechanic, and you alone are responsible for your decision to buy or sell a vehicle.

4. Third-party reports and affiliate disclosure

The Site contains links to a third-party provider that sells vehicle history reports. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Your purchase is a transaction between you and that provider and is governed by its terms and privacy policy. We do not control the provider, its content or its prices, and we are not responsible for them. The same applies to any other site we link to.

5. Intellectual property

The Site's text, design, code, logos and layout belong to us or our licensors. Public data such as NHTSA records remains public. You receive a limited, revocable license to view the Site for personal use, and no other rights.

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the Site, but no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee that information you send or receive will not be intercepted or misused.

7. No warranties

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Site will be uninterrupted or error free.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or the cost of a vehicle you bought or did not buy, arising from your use of the Site or reliance on its information. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.

9. Changes to the Site and these terms

We may change, suspend or remove any part of the Site at any time, and we may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept it.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Connecticut.
